Sunday School

Welcome to the Christian Education Program at

Trinitarian Congregational Church!

All children are welcome all the time.

Overview

At the Trinitarian Congregational Church we hold our Sunday School during the worship service. We offer Nursery Care for infants and toddlers, and Sunday school classes for preschool (age 3 by September 1) through 8th grade. There are five classes: Preschool, Kindergarten/1st Grade, 2nd & 3rd Grades, 4th & 5th Grades, and 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades. Confirmation class is held after church throughout the year for 9th graders.

The Sunday School and Youth Group raised over $3000 at the Attleboro Area Council of Churches CROP Hunger Walk!

General Calendar

Annual Church School events include:

Kick-Off Sunday in early September, with an all-church potluck picnic and carnival.

The Sunday School collects donations of toys, books, and games to create baskets for the Silent Auction at the Church Fall Fair. These baskets are a huge hit with the shoppers, and help the children understand that we can all contribute to the work of the church.

The Christmas Pageant takes place during the church service in mid-December so that everyone can enjoy the children in costume. Older children can participate by reading Scripture while the younger children, dressed in costume, create the tableaux that correspond to each reading. The children often take it very seriously, and it is one of the annual highlights for both the children and the onlookers.

On Palm Sunday, all the classes come together for a Walk Through Holy Week. The stories of Holy Week are told by several adults, with readings and props. We end the story with the empty tomb, to express the joy that comes after the sadness.

In lieu of a Children’s Sunday, each class presents something they’ve worked on in class. These presentations occur during the service throughout the year, stressing to the children that they are an important, integral part of the congregation and the service.

Each year, the Board of Christian Education chooses a major service project for all the youth to work on. It may be a sponsor-based fundraiser such as the CROP Hunger Walk; a donation-based collection, such as goods for Cradles to Crayons or Ronald McDonald House; or something local like a food drive for the Cupboard of Kindness food pantry. We celebrate our hard work and commitment with Ice Cream Sundae School.

We end the school year with a rousing game of Bible Bingo and a potluck brunch.

During the summer months, the Sunday Worship Service shifts to 9:30 a.m. There is a Crafts for Kids program available for kids age 3-8. They attend the first part of the service, then are escorted to a nearby classroom for a story, craft, and snack.

Sunday Morning Routine

Pastor Bernie talks with the children during A Word for All Ages

Children attend church with their parents for the first 20 minutes of service. Crayons and Children’s Bulletins are available at both sanctuary doors. The children are then invited to the front for “A Word for All Ages” with Pastor Bernie. They are dismissed from there to their Sunday School classes.

Parents should accompany new students to class on their first day for proper registration. The Church School Superintendent will help the parent fill out a registration form and give the parent a copy of our Church School policies.

We have two collections of offering during Sunday School. One is “the cow box” for Heifer International, which works with communities worldwide to end hunger and poverty. The other collection basket is for the church’s general fund.

Parents must pick up their children after class. Children in grades 4-8 may be dismissed on their own, with written permission from their parents.

Church School students are awarded a Bible upon completion of the 3rd grade (or higher if they haven’t received one).

Supervision

All Sunday School, Choir, and Youth Group volunteers who work with children must have a CORI on file.

The two-adult rule is adhered to at all times.

We have a comprehensive Safe Church Policy.

Nursery Care

We have extensive information regarding our youngest friends: Nursery Info sheet.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact the Church School Superintendent or any of the members of the Board of Christian Education. The church office phone number is 508-285-4710.
